ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 17th August 2020

A Greenish Warbler was present in the silver birch on the NOA reserve on and off during the day. Though sometimes mobile it was often vocal. Late morning it was seen with up to 4 Pied Flycatchers, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff. On the NWT reserve a Great Spotted Woodpecker, Short-eared Owl, at least 2 further Pied Flycatchers, 3 Whinchats, Lesser Whitethroat and a Wheatear were recorded. A Great White Egret, 3 Spoonbills, Common Sandpiper, 2 Greenshank and 2 Yellow Wagtails were also of note around the recording area.

Insects today included 4 White Points, 17 Flounced Rustics, 10 Straw Underwings, 2 Dingy Footmen, 6 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, a Yellow Shell, 5 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwings, a Rosy Footman, a Drinker, 2 Archer's Darts, 3 Flame Shoulders, 8 Large Yellow Underwings, an Angle Shades, 2 Cloaked Minors, 6 Silver Y, 3 Turnips, a White-lined Dart, Small Square Spot, Ear sp and a Gold Spot.

Butterflies included Painted Lady, Small Heath, Brown Argus, Wall Brown, Gatekeeper and Red Admiral.
