ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Friday 16th October 2015

A strong north-easterly breeze kept many migrants lying low today with over 350 Goldcrests in the recording area, many feeding busily on the lawn just in front of the Observatory! On the sea despite ideal winds 63 Gannets, 4 Arctic Skuas, 3 Great Skuas, 2 Razorbills and 2 Guillemots were the only birds of note. 2 Great Grey Shrikes were still present on the NWT reserve with one occasionally straying onto Redwell Marsh, and 2 Short-eared Owls were seen together, with Merlin, Common Sandpiper, 3 Swallows, 2,500+ Starlings, a Ring Ouzel, 1 Fieldfare, 12 Song Thrushes, 40 Redwings, 60 Robins, 6 Bramblings, and 40 Greenfinches also of interest.
