ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

A big day, with significant movement including 500 Wigeon, 500 Teal, a Pintail, 1 Woodcock, 1 Short-eared Owl, 400+ Goldcrests, 6 Bearded Tits, 35 Skylarks, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 3 Blackcaps, 300 Starlings, 12 Blackbirds, 12 Song Thrushes, 68 Redwings, 40 Robins, 2 Stonechats, a Grey Wagtail, 10 Rock Pipits, 25 Bramblings, 350+ Greenfinches, 15 Redpolls, 100+ Goldfinches, and 25 Siskins. On the sea 13 Eiders, 1000+ Common Scoters, a Red-breasted Merganser, a Red-throated Diver, 4 Great Crested Grebes, 10 Razorbills, 2 Bonxies and a Sandwich Tern were recorded.

Ringing included 52 Greenfinches and 126 Goldcrests together with a steady arrival of Robins (17 ringed) and a number of other common species including Blackcap and Cetti's Warbler.

At Walsey Hills 6 Ring Ouzels were in the area including the pines, the back of Snipe's Marsh and the willows. Over 100 Bramblings also arrived during the day.
