A horrible first half of the day with steady rain and freezing northerly winds, giving way to sunshine mid afternoon. Four Wheatears were along the sea wall at Thornham and a single Swallow was trying to feed out on the grazing marsh. At least 8 Chiffchaffs were seen and a Grasshopper Warbler was noted near the car park. A Sedge Warbler was singing near the end of the east bank and a Blackcap started up near the Obs when the sun came out!
Interest at Walsey included a steady movement of hirundines throughout the morning with 60 Swallows, 11 House Martins and 4 Sand Martins. In the scrub 2 Willow Warblers sang despite the rain; in the afternoon 4 Chiffchaffs and 4 Blackcaps were seen. 2 adult Mediterranean Gulls flew west.
