ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE
REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.
Tuesday 19th April 2016
A clear and sunny day with little wind saw the first Common Cuckoo of the year, singing in the pines before flying along the East Bank and in to cover. Hirundines passing through included 45 Swallows, 4 House Martins and 3 Sand Martins. 7 Wheatears were along the sea wall and 45 Yellow Wagtails were seen in two groups with livestock. A Short-eared Owl was seen mid-morning, a Barn Owl was hunting near the golf course in the evening and a Greenshank was in Thornham Harbour. Other migrants noted in the area included 3 Willow Warblers, 8 Chiffchaffs, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Common Whitethroats, 2 Grasshopper Warblers and 12 Sedge Warblers.
