Saturday 11th June 2016

Seawatching today produced 250 Common Scoters, a Gannet, 2 Little Terns, 31 Sandwich Terns and 4 Common Terns. Also of interest were a Greenshank, a Spoonbill flying over east, 100 Golden Plovers east, a Med Gull, a Cuckoo, a Green Woodpecker and at least 3 Turtle Doves around the recording area.

In the moth traps a Pebble Prominent, 2 Middle-Barred Minors, a Bright-line Brown Eye, 6 White Ermines and 18 Diamond-backs were among the catch.

Highlights at Walsey Hills included up to 5 Mediterranean Gulls, a Red Kite, c.50 Knot briefly on Arnold's Marsh and 2 Spoonbills circling over Snipe's Marsh and the reserve before flying south-east. A Serin was in gardens at the east end of Cley village for much of the day, though it proved tricky to see at times.

There were still around a thousand Xylostella plutella around the reserve, mainly present along the southern boundary; other moths seen included Adela croesella, Micropterix aruncella and Sandy Carpet whilst the best butterflies were singles of Orange-tip, Green-veined White, Wall Brown and Holly Blue.

One of three Micropterix aruncella seen around the reserve - Walsey Hills, June 2016
