A mixed day with a selection of the expected autumn migrants plus the arrival of some of the wintering ones. Pink-feet were more numerous today, with at least two hundred seen arriving over the wash in small numbers. A Merlin put in a brief appearance and was watched chasing Meadow Pipits on the grazing Marsh, at least three Water Rails were calling around the Broadwater, and two Kingfishers were active around there too. A Rock Pipit frequented the East Bank as did a Whinchat and a Wheatear. On the sea two Red-throated Diver, a Red Breasted Merganser and Bonxie were noted. Other birds of note included a Black Redstart around the coal barn in Thornham Harbour, though pride of place must go to The Hoopoe seen briefly on the NWt reserve early morning.
