A perfect start to the day weather wise, which unfortunately soon deteriorated into a somewhat grey and blustery afternoon ! A sea watch produced counts of 60 Common Scoter, seven Gannets and three Little Gulls. On the reserve both Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers were in the pines and a Great White Egret was again on the grazing marsh.
The moth traps were again busy and moths caught included Least Carpet, Archers Dart (3), Red twin-spot Carpet, Barred Straw, Rosy Footman and Garden Tiger (3). A Humming Bird Hawk-moth also appeared several times on the Buddleia outside the Observatory building during the day.
