ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Wednesday 14th October 2020


An excellent migration day today with 3+ Woodcock, a Short-eared Owl, 400+ Goldcrests (129 ringed), 6 Bearded Tits, 4 House Martins, 3 Chiffchaffs, 10+ Blackcaps, a Lesser Whitethroat, 7,125 Starlings, a Ring Ouzel, 45 Blackbirds, a Fieldfare, 15 Song Thrushes, 120 Redwings, a Mistle Thrush, 25 Robins, a Redstart, 4 Stonechats, 3 Grey Wagtails, 3 Pied Wagtails, 25 Meadow Pipits, a Rock Pipit, 15 Bramblings, 80+ Chaffinches, 200+ Linnets, 42 Goldfinches, 12 Siskins, a Lapland Bunting and 15 Reed Buntings among the many birds logged during the day. At least 2 Pallas' Warblers were seen, one in the forestry on the NWT reserve and another ringed at the Observatory mid morning (pictured). Other birds of note included a  Richard's Pipit over the Golf Course, a Great White Egret over the pines, and on the sea 6 Eiders, 300+ Common Scoters, a Goldeneye, 2 Red-breasted Mergansers, Red-throated and Great Northern Divers, 19 Gannets, single Razorbill and Guillemot, 8 Kittiwakes and a juvenile Med Gull.

 

In the moth traps a Scarce Bordered Straw was of note.
