Sea watching was very much the activity of the day, though the wind whilst from the right direction, was nowhere near as strong as predicted. Totals for the morning (08.30-1200) included 550 Common Scoter, 34 Great-crested Grebes, 24 Bonxies, 4 Arctic and 2 Pomarine Skuas, 17 Little Gulls, 15 Gannets,12 Red-breasted Mergansers, 9 Pintail, 7 Red-throated, 3 Great Northern and one Black-throated Diver and a Red-necked Grebe. A grand total of 724 Kittiwakes were counted, with the probability many were missed as they appeared to be arriving and entering the wash from the North. A count of fifty Snipe was made early morning as the high tide flooded the saltmarsh at Thornham, forcing them to take flight.
