Three Shorelark were at Thornham Point today and a drake Goldeneye was on the Broadwater. A pair of Stonechats were on the east bank, and a Greenshank was at Gore Point in the morning.

A pair of Stonechats were around the observatory building, a path side Woodcock was disturbed early morning and on the sea birds recorded included a pair of Eider, three Red-throated Divers, three Red-breasted Mergansers and two Fulmar. The flock of c20 Twite were again present near the coal barn in Thornham Harbour.

As predicted a very windy day, which meant little of note on the reserve other than a female Stonechat which could be found sheltering in the lee of the wind behind the observatory. On the sea a single Goldeneye and six Red-breasted Mergansers were noted. Large numbers of geese were again present on the grazing marsh, with around 1500 Pink-feet and 300 Brent Geese present.

The Shorelarks were again present in Thornham Harbour, three Long-tailed Ducks were off Gore Point and five Red-throated Divers were also noted. A pair of Stonechat were again near the observatory building, with a Woodcock, two Siskin, three Buzzards and a Barn Owl also seen.

Saturday 16th January 2016

A pair of Stonechats remained around the observatory building, the shorelarks were again present in Thornham Harbour as were at least 20 Twite. Other birds of note included a Greenshank on Lavender Marsh, 10 Snipe and one Jack Snipe.

Friday 15th January 2016

Birds today included the three Shorelark and a Spoonbill in Thornham Harbour. On the sea sightings included eight Red-throated and one Great Northern Diver and one 1st winter Little Gull. A peregrine and two Barn Owls were on the grazing Marsh.

Wednesday 13th January 2016

Highlights today were 2 Greenshanks near Gore Point, a Woodcock over the Observatory, 3 Snipe from the Car Park Hide, at least 1 Barn Owl hunting, the Shorelark were again at Thornham Point but mobile, a Cetti's Warbler was calling from near the Obs, 3 Stonechats were along the coastal footpath, and 28 Twite again at Thornham Harbour.
