ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Highlights today were the Short-eared Owl seen in the morning hunting on the grazing marsh, on the sea a noticeable passage of terns including 25 Little, 180 Sandwich and 100+ Comic moving offshore. Also of note were 3 Turtle Doves, a Cuckoo, a Hobby, a Grey Wagtail and 2 Redpolls over west.

Insects were more abundant today with 2 Poplars, an Eyed Hawk Moth, a Small Elephant Hawk, 2 Waved and one Small Waved Umber, a Diamond-back, and Vine's Rustic among the moth catch. A total of 20 Brown Argus were counted around the reserve in the afternoon with Green Hairstreak, Common Blue, Small Copper and Orange Tip also in good numbers. An Azure Damselfly was also noted.

Highlights from Walsey included 2 Spoonbills going west in the morning, a single Swift, 40 Swallows, 10 Sand Martins and 3 singing Cetti's Warblers.
