ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Wednesday 18th May 2016

A wet and at times breezy day with little sign of migration, 2 Turtle Doves were between Beach Road and The Firs, 3 Cuckoos were seen around the site, 40 Swifts were feeding in the area and the local Swallows were present. Around the Observatory and in the Dunes were 3 Chiffchaffs, 2 Willow Warblers, 1 Blackcap, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Common Whitethroats, 5 Sedge Warblers and 2 Reed Warblers. A single Pink-footed Goose remained on the marsh, a Brent Goose was on the sea and a Short-eared Owl was hunting near the Broadwater between showers. No butterflies were seen and there were only 4 moths from the traps, though these included one Cydia conicolana.
