Saturday 16th July 2016

Thanks to everyone who attended our moth day today, a great variety of moths were caught and brought. Highlights were 3 Kent Black Arches, 8 Southern Wainscots, 2 Garden Tigers, a Silky Wainscot, a Broad-barred White, 2 Fen Wainscots, a Pine, 2 Privets, 3 Poplar and an Eyed Hawk, a Plain Golden Y, a Drinker, and 2 Scalloped Oak. Overall 63 species were caught on the reserve with a Forrester from the NWT reserve also of particular interest.

Birds still caught the attention with a female Crossbill in the pines overhead as the moth traps were emptied. Other birds of note included a Whimbrel, a Kingfisher and a Cetti's Warbler.
