A wet and miserable day until mid afternoon at least, with little bird news to report, but moths were good last night with 9 Common Emeralds, 2 Kent Black Arches, 4 Ruby Tigers, a Plain Golden Y, an Elephant Hawk, a Peppered Moth, a Privet Hawk and a Bordered White among the catch. Butterflies were scarce but a Painted Lady, Comma and 2 Ringlets were around the reserve.
An estimated 210 Sand Martins were feeding off the front of Walsey Hills throughout the morning during heavy rain, otherwise highlights were very limited. A Ringlet, 17 Meadow Browns, 4 Common Blues and 2 Small Tortoiseshells were counted in the afternoon.
