ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Another relatively interesting day with clear skies and light winds shifting from the north round to the east in the afternoon. Obvious highlights were at least 4 Yellow-browed Warblers (with two ringed) and the two Richard's Pipits again along the Broadwater and marsh to the south of the Observatory.

A Great Grey Shrike was picked up in the afternoon to the west of the reserve, seen at Redwell Marsh and in the paddocks. Other interest included 25 Bramblings, 2 Siskins, 6 Lesser Redpolls, 3 Chiffchaffs, 8 Whinchats along Thornham bank, one each of Redwing and Rock Pipit and two Bearded Tits at the east end of the Broadwater.

Wader counts included 400 Oystercatchers, 6 Grey Plovers, 34 Ringed Plovers, 58 Curlews, 220 Bar-tailed Godwits, 2 Spotted Redshanks, 9 Sanderlings, 5 Dunlins and a Greenshank whilst on the sea 750 Common Scoters were counted with a single Velvet Scoter also noted. Black-throated Diver was recorded as were 4 Red-throated and 13 Great Crested Grebes.

Two Wall Browns were of note near the pond.
