REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 26th October 2020


Another breezy day with thundery showers in the afternoon. The Dusky Warbler was showing after the rain at 3.15, near the southern arm of the Heligoland trap. A group of 8 Ruff were on the grazing marsh and Tawny, Barn and Short-eared Owls were all seen. An arrival of Goldcrests was noted during the day with 60+ recorded in the pines, and 6 Bearded Tits were noted in the reeds, while 3 Stonechats, 6 Rock Pipits and 7 Twite were also of interest.

 

A Merveille du Jour (pictured) was in the moth trap and 2 Migrant Hawkers were still on the wing near the Observatory.
