Holme Bird Observatory Monday 26th July 2021

Bird highlights today included 400 Common Scoter, an Arctic Skua, 7 Great Crested Grebes, 9 Sandwich Terns and a Common Tern passing offshore, a Whimbrel, Green Sandpiper, Greenshank and 3 Snipe over the grazing marsh, 72 Golden Plover in the harbour, a light passage of hirundines with 2 Sand Martins and 12 Swallows passing west along the dunes, 6 Chiffchaffs, 3 Whitethroats, a Grasshopper Warbler near the car park, 3 Yellow Wagtails near the entrance gate, and 2 Stonechats along the east bank.
 
Today's moth catch included 10 Garden Tigers, 30 Common Footman, 28 Scarce Footman, 8 Rosy Footman, 20 Piniphila bifasciana, 5 Ruby Tiger, 9 Dingy Footman, 1 Aethes rubigana, 10 Yellow-tail, 6 Lozotaenoides formosana, a Small Magpie, Blastobasis adustella, Privet Hawk, Oak Eggar, 2 Brachmia blandella, a Vitula biviella, 2 Eudonia mercurella, 3 Small Fan-footed Wave, 3 Early Thorn, 1 Celypha striana, 3 Haworth's Pug, 3 Garden Grass Veneer, 5 Platytes aplinella, 2 Catoptria pinella, 2 Buff Ermine, 7 Brown-tail, 5 Cochylis atricapitana, 6 Drinker, 1 Anania coronata, Red Twin-spot Carpet, 5 Single Dotted Wave, 3 Least Carpet, 3 Scoparia ambigualis, 8 Rustic, 3 Diamond-back, 3 Fen Wainscot, 3 Garden Rose Tortrix, 1 Homoeosoma sinuella, a Ltticed Heath, 3 Pine Hawk, 4 Helcystogramma rufescens, 1 Schoenobius gigantella, Round-winged Muslin, 2 Dark Arches, Kent Black Arches, Black Arches, Small Elephant Hawk, Nut-tree Tussock, Peppered Moth, Barred Straw, Poplar Grey, Brown-line Bright-eye, Shaded Broad-bar, 4 Knot-grass, Beautiful Hook-tip, 3 Smoky Wainscot, Painted Neb, Willow Beauty, Southern Wainscot, Common Rustic, Straw Underwing, Cloaked Minor, Bird-cherry Ermine, 3 Anerastia lotella, Marbled Green, 2 Clay, White-line Dart, Uncertain, Ear sp, Pseudargyrotoza conwagana, Paraswammerdamia nebulella and Oncocera seminebulella.
