ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 25th July 2021

 A Spoonbill flew east and 2 Great White Egrets were around the Broadwater, with 3 Green Sandpipers also recorded. On the sea 350 Common Scoter, 6 Gannets, a Fulmar, 6 Little Terns, 80+ Sandwich Terns and 4 Common Terns were also of note. A flock of 13 Black-tailed Godwits flew west over the grazing marsh and 3 Snipe were also of interest, with 2 Turtle Doves seen on the wires at the west end of the dunes and 3 Stonechats also seen.
 
Moth numbers were more modest today but still included 2 Buff Ermine, 9 Yellow-tail, 4 Dingy Footman, 5 Brown-tail, a Least Carpet, 23 Common Footman, 21 scarce Footman, 10 Garden Tiger, a Buff Tip, 4 Single Dotted Wave, Mother-of-pearl, Dwarf Cream Wave, 2 Rosy Minor, 2 Knot Grass, Chinese Character, Brown-line Bright-eye, 3 Ear sp, 4 Clay, 2 Cloaked Minor, 2 Rosy Footman, 3 Pine Hawk, 17 Ruby Tiger, a Fern, 2 Drinker, a male Black Arches, Small Elephant Hawk, Red Twin-spot Carpet, Poplar Hawk, Light Arches, 4 Smoky Wainscot, White-line Dart, 2 Dark Arches, 8 Rustic, Barred Straw, Large Yellow Underwing, Southern Waincot, Archer's Dart, Grey Dagger agg, Uncertain, Common and Mottled Rustic, and a Silver Y.
