ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 11th July 2021

On the sea today 12 Common Scoter, 2 Gannets, a Great Crested Grebe and 25 Sandwich Terns were counted. Two Common Sandpipers were around the Broadwater and a Hobby was hawking insects over the pines. A Great White Egret was also on the Broadwater.

Another good moth catch included 6 Cinnabar, a White-line Dart, 3 Beautiful Hook-tip, a Privet Hawk, Barred Straw, 3 Mottled Rustic, 2 Dwarf Cream Wave, 8 Rustic, 5 Uncertain, a Cloaked Minor, a True-lover's Knot, 5 Scarce Footman, Smoky Wainscot, 2 Striped Wainscot, 8 Common Footman, 2 Brown Tail, a Dingy Footman, 2 Yellow Tail, a Least Carpet, 3 Lyme Grass, 3 Willow Beauty, 2 Pine Hawks, 5 Haworth's Pugs, a Short-cloaked Moth, Large Yellow Underwing, 2 Buff Ermine, a Shaded Pug, Silver Y, Buff Tip, Flame, 4 Dark Arches, Lime-speck Pug, 2 Archer's Darts, a Campion, Single Dotted Wave,  and a Bright-Line Brown-Eye. 

Butterflies included Small White, Red Admiral, Ringlet, Meadow Brown and a Clouded Yellow was on the east bank in the afternoon.
