ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Friday 27th August 2021

Seawatching today produced 2 Shelduck, 40 Common Scoter, 9 Gannets, 4 Great Crested Grebes, 14 Sandwich and 2 Common Terns, and an Arctic Skua. Also of interest around the reserves were 2 Whimbrel, a Ruff, 2 Common Sandpipers, a Snipe and 4 Stonechats.
 
Moths today were a Bulrush Wainscot, 2 Cloaked Minor, 2 Orange Swift, Drinker, 6 Flounced Rustic, Setaceous Hebrew Character, Pinion-streaked Snout, 2 Spectacle, Green Carpet, Vine's Rustic, 3 White-line Dart, Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, Gold Spot, Archer's Dart, Large Yellow Underwing and 2 Flame Shoulder.
 
A good range of butterflies were feeding on the buddleias when the sun came out, including Painted Lady, Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Gatekeeper and Speckled Wood.
