Seawatching was the focus of observations today, with 33
Teal, 44 Common Scoter, 4 Fulmars, 5 Sooty Shearwaters west, a Balearic
Shearwater west, 27 Gannets, 4 Great Crested Grebes, 23 Arctic Skuas, 15
Bonxies, 73 Sandwich Terns, 2 Common Terns and a Little Gull recorded passing
offshore. A Sabine’s Gull and 5 Purple Sandpipers were seen past the NWT. Other
birds of note were 2 Whimbrel, 25 Black-tailed Godwits, a Greenshank, a
Peregrine, 16 Swallows, 30 House Martins, 3 Chiffchaffs and 3 Stonechats.
Moths were rather scarce today but included Spectacle, 2
White-line Darts, 2 Orange Swifts, 2 Flounced Rustics, Dingy Footman,
Lime-speck Pug, 2 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwings, 3 Archer’s Darts, 2
Vine’s Rustics and a Flame Shoulder. At least 15 Common Darters and 6 Migrant
Hawkers were swarming near the west entrance to the reserve, with Red Admiral
and Speckled Wood also seen.
