ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 16th August 2021

With winds swinging north the highlights today were 2 Garganey on the Broadwater and another on the NWT pools, on the sea 16 Common Scoter, 9 Fulmars, a Sooty Shearwater west, 18 Gannets, 19 Great Crested Grebes, 22 Arctic Skuas, 5 Bonxies, 2 Black Terns, 318 Sandwich Terns, 52 Common Terns, 3 Arctic Terns and 3 Med Gulls west. Also of interest were 28 Black-tailed Godwits, 2+ Green Sandpipers, 3 Snipe, 80 Swallows, 50 House Martins, 9 Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler, 2 Blackcaps, juvenile Stonechat and 15+ Yellow Wagtails passing through.
 
Moths today included 6 Garden Pebble, a Garden Tiger, 3 Nutmeg, Small Blood-vein, 8 Drinker, 11 Flame Shoulder, 13 Flounced Rustic, 10 Archer's Dart, 5 Dingy Footman, 7 Scarce Footman, 2 Tree Lichen Beauty, 3 Cloaked Minor, 8 Yellow-tail, 7 White-line Dart, 5 Knot Grass, 3 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 5 Sharp-angled Peacock, Common Carpet, 6 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, Latticed Heath, 4 Large Yellow Underwing, Willow Beauty, Gold Spot, 2 Orange Swift, Small Waved Umber, Least Yellow Underwing, Rustic, 4 Ruby Tiger, 3 Straw Underwing, Southern Wainscot, 2 Setaceous Hebrew Character, Riband Wave, Red Twin-spot Carpet, 2 Straw Dot, Smoky Wainscot, Fen Wainscot, Breckland Plume, Common Rustic, Square-spot Rustic, Brown-veined Wainscot and Willow Beauty.
