ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 18th September 2021

Some overhead migration this morning, and on the sea 2 Red-throated Divers and 4 Gannets were recorded, with 2 Greenshank and 2 Spotted Redshank at Thornham Harbour, A Barn Owl hunting near Redwell Marsh, a Great White Egret and 2 Spoonbills were noted, 18 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Ruff and 6 Snipe were on the NWT pools, a Kingfisher was around the Broadwater and 3 Pintail were also of interest, while 8 Chiffchaffs, a Whitethroat, male Redstart, 8 Stonechats, 2 Yellow Wagtails, 2 Grey Wagtails and 12 Siskins were also recorded.
 
Moths today included 10 Large Yellow Underwing, a Gold Spot, 3 Snout, 2 Green Carpet, 2 Brimstone, 4 Sallow, 12 Vine's Rustic, 12 Square-spot Rustic, 2 Large Wainscot, Frosted Orange, 11 Setaceous Hebrew Character, Light Emerald, Turnip, Broad Bordered Yellow Underwing, 3 Common Marbled Carpet, 4 Willow Beauty, 2 Common Wainscot, Garden Carpet, 2 Silver Y, Dingy Footman, 2 Flounced Rustic, Small Square Spot, Angle Shades, 5 Lunar Underwing, White Point, 2 Archer's Dart, and 4 White-line Dart.
 
Butterflies were still on the wing, with a Small Copper, Small Heath, 3 Comma, 15 Red Admiral, Green-veined White and 2 Painted Ladies recorded.
