ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 19th September 2021

A brisk south-easterly subsided during the day, with rain not arriving by mid afternoon. On the sea 85 Brent Geese, 112 Wigeon, 5 Gannets, 2 Great Crested Grebes and 7 Sandwich Terns were recorded, and waders included 28 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Ruff, Green Sandpiper, 3 Greenshank and 5 Snipe. A Peregrine and a Red Kite were noted, and Great White Egret, Kingfisher, 25 Swallows, 9 Chiffchaffs, 8 Blackcaps, Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Stonechats, 2 Yellow Wagtails and a Tree Pipit were also recorded. A Purple Heron was reported but no location identified.
 
Moths today included 15 Large Yellow Underwing, 9 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 2 White-line Darts, Willow Beauty, Comon Marbled Carpet, 5 Vine's Rustic, 2 Silver Y, Brown-spot Pinion, Smoky Wainscot, Frosted Orange, Archer's Dart, Sallow, Canary-shouldered Thorn, Light Emerald, 4 Square-spot Rustic, White Point, Lunar Underwing, 2 Snout, Turnip, Lesser Yellow Underwing, Small Square-spot, Green Carpet and a Convolvulus Hawk Moth.
