ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 5th September 2021

A bit of visual migration in the morning with 3 Yellow Wagtails, 5 Grey Wagtails east, 2 Tree Pipits and 20 Meadow Pipits passing over the east bank. Also of interest were 2 Whimbrel, 2 Greenshank, 19 Black-tailed Godwits, 60 Curlew, 3 Arctic Skuas offshore, 16 Swallows, 6 House Martins, 4 Chiffchaffs, 2 Blackcaps, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Whitethroats, a Sedge and 6+ Reed Warblers, 5+ Pied Flycatchers across the recording area, 2 Redstarts on the NWT reserve, a Garganey on the Broadwater, a Whinchat, 4 Stonechats, and a Ring-necked Parakeet at the Saltings.
 
There was plenty in the moth traps with 24 Archer’s Dart, 23 White-line Dart, 7 Square-spot Rustic, 28 Setaceous Hebrew Character, 18 Flounced Rustic, 19 Vine’s Rustic, a Frosted Orange, Green Carpet, 6 Small Square-spot, 20 Large Yellow Underwing, Dingy Footman, Common Wainscot, Spectacle, 3 White Point, 3 Flame Shoulder, 3 Cabbage, Drinker, Silver Y, Willow Beauty, 3 Turnip, 2 Lesser Yellow Underwing, 2 Rosy Rustic, Scarce Footman and Straw Dot.
 
A few more butterflies were out today with Brown Argus, Small Heath, Painted Lady, Red Admiral Large and Small White, Common Blue, Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell recorded.
