ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Thursday 9th September 2021

On the sea today 2 Fulmars, 4 Great Crested Grebes, 18 Sandwich and 63 Common Terns were counted. The other birds of note were mainly waders with 39 Black-tailed Godwits, a Greenshank and 4 Snipe of interest. Two Hobbies flew over the Observatory calling, and single Grey and Yellow Wagtails were also heard passing over.
 
A busy moth catch included 10 Flounced Rustic, 8 Turnip, a Gem, 2 Cabbage, 2 Rosy Rustic, Angle Shades, 4 Pinion-streaked Snout, 2 Willow Beauty, 2 Lesser Yellow Underwing, 3 Dingy Footman, Single Dotted Wave, 2 Small Square-spot, Saltmarsh Plume, Broad Bordered Yellow Underwing, Mouse Moth, Rush Veneer, Spectacle, Bordered Beauty and Fern.
 
A Wall Brown, 2 Painted Lady and 15 Red Admiral were among the butterflies seen.
