ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Friday 10th September 2021

On the sea today, 102 Common Scoter, Red-throated Diver, 2 Fulmars, 7 Gannets, 11 Great Crested Grebes, 29 Sandwich and 29 Common Terns were counted. Also of interest were 35 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Great White Egrets, Greenshank, Snipe and at least 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers. A Merlin flew out across the grazing marsh.
 
Moths included Small Dusty Wave, 4 Burnished Brass, 4 Willow Beauty, 25 White-line Dart, 29 Square-spot Rustic, 7 Flounced Rustic, 53 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, Shuttle-shaped Dart, 4 Small Square-spot, 5 Turnip, 18 Large Yellow Underwing, Rosy Rustic, 6 Common Wainscot, Light Emerald, 7 Archer’s Dart, 17 Vine’s Rustic, 2 Silver Y, Angle Shades, Straw Dot, 2 Green Carpet, Gold Spot, 5 Flame Shoulder, Rusty-dot Pearl, 3 Lesser Yellow Underwing, Dingy Footman, Brimstone and Smoky Wainscot.
 
Two Willow Emerald Damselflies were seen near the Car Park Hide.
