ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Tuesday 21st September 2021

A bright and sunny day with light westerlies. Offshore 26 Pink-feet and 33 Brent Geese were seen, with 46 Common Scoter, a Red-throated Diver, 11 Gannets, 5 Great Crested Grebes, 4 Guillemots and 19 Sandwich Terns recorded. Also of interest were a Kingfisher, Water Rail, 22 Golden Plover, 47 Lapwing, 32 Black-tailed Godwits, Greenshank, 10 Swallows, 3 Chiffchaffs, 2 Willow Warblers, Whitethroat, Blackcap, a juvenile male Redstart was trapped and ringed, and 2 Grey and 2 Yellow Wagtails flew over calling.
 
Moths today were 3 Flounced Rustic, 4 Snout, Brimstone, 13 Square-spot Rustic, 11 Large Yellow Underwing, 3 Feathered Ranunculus, Green Carpet, 6 Lunar Underwing, Spruce Carpet, Barred Red, Light Emerald, Silver Y, White-line Dart, Small Dusty Wave, 2 Willow Beauty, 3 White Point, 5 Setaceous Hebrew Character, 5 Large Wainscot, Archer's Dart, 2 Common Marbled Carpet, Rosy Rustic, Sallow, 3 Rusty Dot Pearl, Shuttle-shaped Dart and Vine's Rustic.
