On the sea today 5 Eider, a
single Goosander and Red-breasted Merganser, 7 Red-throated Divers, Manx
Shearwater, 25 Gannets, 3 Great Crested Grebes, 3 Guillemots, a Sandwich and 2
Arctic Terns were recorded. A ring-tail Hen Harrier flew west south of the Broadwater.
Further migration included 590 Pink-feet, 145 Brents, Avocet, 17 Golden Plover
east, 4 Snipe, Jay, 1350+ Starlings, 7 Blackbirds, 3 Song Thrushes, 4 Redwings,
2 Mistle Thrushes, 3 Bearded Tits, a Swallow, 2 House Martins, 6 Stonechats, 3
Grey Wagtails, 60 Meadow Pipits, 20 Rock Pipits, 2 Bramblings, 3 Redpolls, 11
Siskins, and a probable Richard's Pipit heard over the grazing marsh in the
morning.
In the moth traps a staggering
second Clifden Non-pareil (different from yesterday's) was on the back of the
trap. Other moths recorded were 4 Large Yellow Underwings, 4 Setaceous Hebrew
Characters, 2 Beaded Chestnuts, 5 Large Wainscots, 2 Shore Wainscots, 3
Feathered Ranunculus, 4 Lunar Underwings, 3 Barred Sallows, Merveille du Jour,
Common Marbled Carpet, Turnip, Light Emerald and two Square-spot Rustic.
