ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 28th March 2022

Another sunny and warm day at the Obs. A Black Redstart was seen briefly near the heli but not relocated. On the sea 15 Eider, 1,119 Common Scoter, 10 Red-breasted Mergansers and a Red-throated Diver were noted. Three Red Kites and 5+ Buzzards were soaring on thermals and 9 Chiffchaffs, 4 Stonechats, 3 Bramblings and 4 Redpoll sp were seen, while a Lesser Redpoll was trapped and ringed.

In the moth traps a Red Chestnut, 2 Shoulder Stripes, an Oak Beauty, 3 Clouded Drabs, a Twin-spotted Wainscot, March Tubic and a Hebrew Character were caught.

Butterflies were seen including 2 Commas, 2 Peacocks and 2 Small Tortoiseshells.
