ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 18th April 2022

On the sea today an estimated 4,000 Common Scoter were counted with 2 Red-breasted Mergansers, a Fulmar, and 6 Great Northern Divers reported drifting west past Gore Point early morning. Also of interest were 7 Whimbrel, 45 Black-tailed Godwits, a Snipe, 23 Med Gulls, 2 Cuckoos, 3 Swallows, 12 Chiffchaffs, 3 Willow Warblers, 11 Blackcaps, a Whitethroat, a Grasshopper Warbler, 8 Sedge Warblers, 2 Reed Warblers, 4 Stonechats, 5 Yellow Wagtails, a Brambling and 4 Redpolls.

In the moth traps a Great Prominent and a Water Carpet were highlights, with 2 Hebrew Characters, Small Quaker and Common Quaker also caught. Butterflies included 6 Green-veined Whites, 2 Large Whites, 2 Brimstones, 2 Orange Tips, 5 Peacocks and 2 Small Tortoiseshells.
