ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 30th April 2022

 A beautiful day with sunshine and light winds, visual migration was apparent. Highlights were single Great White Egret and Spoonbill, 12 Golden Plover in summer plumage, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 22 Whimbrel, a Ruff, a Greenshank, a Wood Sandpiper, Snipe, Cuckoo, Sand Martin 35+ Swallows, House Martin, 3 Grasshopper Warblers, 15 Sedge Warblers, 8 Reed Warblers, a Stonechat, 5 Wheatears, 3 Yellow Wagtails, Grey Wagtail, a Redpoll and 2 Ravens. On the sea a male Red-breasted Merganser and a female Goosander were noted, with 21 Sandwich and 2 Common Terns also of note.

 In the moth traps a Cinnabar, Common Pug, Angle Shades, Hebrew Character and 2 Muslins were caught. A Large Red Damselfly, 6 Green Hairstreaks, 4 Orange Tips, 3 Small Coppers, a Brown Argus, 2 Small Heaths, 5 Wall Browns, 2 Small Tortoiseshells, 4 Peacocks, a Speckled Wood, 4 Green-veined Whites, 2 Brimstones were also seen.
