ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 23rd May 2022

On the sea today 2 Fulmars, 24 Little Terns, 9 Sandwich and 7 Common Terns were counted. A flock of 27 Black-tailed Godwits was on Thornham marsh and other birds of interest were 10 Swifts, 2 Swallows, 3 House Martins, 5 Chiffchaffs, 3 Blackcaps, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, 8 Whitethroats, 6 Sedge Warblers, 4 Reed Warblers, and 5 Stonechats.

In the moth traps 14 White Ermines, 2 Willow Beauties, Angle Shades, 3 Green Carpets, 6 Cinnabars, 4 Small Elephant Hawks, 2 Marbled Minors, 4 Treble Lines, Common Wainscot, Shoulder-striped Wainscot, 3 Garden Pebble, Eyed Hawk, Common Marbled Carpet, 4 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 6 Small Square-spots, 2 Bordered Whites, 2 Straw Dots, Poplar Hawk, Buff Tip, Chocolate Tip, Red Twin-spot Carpet, Chinese Character, Fern, Rush Veneer, Northern Drab, 3 Mottled Rustics, Flaem Shoulder, 2 Shuttle-shaped Darts and a Common Carpet. 

A Broad-bodied Chaser was on the wing, and butterflies included 4 Wall Browns, 3 Common Blues and 2 Small Heaths.
