REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 22nd May 2022

A quiet day, with 2 Cuckoos, 3 Swallows, 5 Chiffchaffs, 4 Blackcaps, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 6 Whitethroats, 7 Sedge and 5 Reed Warblers, and 7 Stonechats in the dunes.

In the moth traps 11 Green Carpets, a Common Marbled Carpet, 3 Small Elephant Hawks, 4 Willow Beauties, 20 White Ermines, Marbled Minor sp, 8 Cinnabars, 5 Treble Lines, 2 Spectacle, Flame Wainscot, 2 Small Square Spot, 4 Flame Shoulders, 2 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, a Chocolate Tip, 3 Buff Tips, a Poplar Kitten, Shuttle-shaped Dart, Muslin, Garden Pebble, 3 Mottled Rustics, a Brown Rustic, Poplar Hawk, Pale Tussock, Small Magpie and Garden Carpet were caught.

Butterflies were numerous with 4 Painted Ladies, 6 Wall Browns, 2 Small Heath, 3 Green-veined White, 2 Small White, Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock and Speckled Wood recorded.
