ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Friday 24th June 2022

On the sea today 65 Common Scoter, a Fulmar, 9 Gannets, 15 Little Terns, 85 Sandwich Terns, 6 Common Terns and 27 Bar-tailed Godwits were counted. An adult Med Gull drifted over the pines and 2 Lesser Whitethroats and 2 Stonechats were also of note.

In the moth traps 3 Rosy Footman, 14 Common Footman, 2 Small Elephant Hawk, Small Magpie, 2 Barred Yellows, 2 Spectacles, 4 Riband Waves, Dog's Tooth, 2 Haworth's Pugs, Peppered Moth, 13 Cinnabars, Beautiful Hook-tip, 2 Bordered Whites, 7 Straw Dots, 2 Scarce Footman, Pine Hawk, Garden Carpet, Clay, Rustic, Common Swift, Brown Rustic, Flame Shoulder, Common Emerald, Mottled Rustic, Mottled Beauty, Sand Dart, 2 Ferns, Elephant Hawk, Middle-barred Minor, Yellow Tail, Privet Hawk, 2 Small Emeralds, Eyed Hawk, Sharp-angled Peacock, 3 Flames, 2 Buff Ermines, White-line Dart, Obscure Wainscot, Small Bloodvein, Poplar Hawk, Uncertain, Heart & Club, Large Yellow Underwing, Shoulder-striped Wainscot, Swallowtail, Barred Straw, Rosy Wave, Dwarf Cream Wave and Round-winged Muslin were caught.

Ringlet, Meadow Brown, Painted Lady, Red Admiral, Small Heath and a Comma were among the butterflies recorded, with a Black-tailed Skimmer again at the pond.
