ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Satruday 25th June 2022

At sea today 6 Gannets, a Fulmar, 52 Sandwich Terns and 3 Little Terns were counted, and around the reserves 12 Swifts, a Chiffchaff, Blackcap, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, 3 Whitethroats, Grasshopper Warbler, 2 Sedge and a Reed Warbler were of interest with a family of Stonechats along the east bank.

In the moth traps the high winds kept numbers low but 3 Small Elephant Hawks, a Privet Hawk, Common Footman, Scarce Footman, 4 Sand Darts, 3 Middle-barred Minors, Flame Shoulder, 2 Swallowtails, Obscure Wainscot, Yellow Tail, 2 Buff Tips, Beautiful Hook-tip, 2 Cinnabars, Eyed Hawk, Uncertain, Nut-tree Tussock, Small Blood-vein, Mottled Rustic, Large Yellow Underwing, Dog's Tooth, Dwarf Cream Wave, Rustic, Flame, Pine Hawk and Buff Ermine were recorded. A Humming-bird Hawk Moth was feeding at flowers on the reserve.

Small Tortoiseshell, Red Admiral, Painted Lady, Meadow Brown and Ringlet were the butterflies of note.
