ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 27th June 2022

On the sea today 40 Common Scoter, 4 Little Terns and 175 Sandwich Terns were counted, with a Hobby of note at Gore Point and 2 Grasshopper Warblers reeling along Broadwater Road. Also of interest were a Bearded Tit in the reeds near the Broadwater Hide, 7 Chiffchaffs, Lesser Whitethroat, 5 Whitethroats, 5 Sedge and 2 Reed Warblers, and 3 Stonechats along the sea wall. 

Moths included Common Swift, 2 Small Elephant Hawks, 2 Bordered White, Marbled Minor sp., 5 Mottled Rustic, 3 Large Yellow Underwings, 2 Heart & Club, Brown Rustic, 2 Flame, 3 Uncertain, Dog's Tooth, Nut-tree Tussock, Riband Wave, 3 Sand Darts, Poplar Grey, Lime-speck Pug, Pale Prominent, Southern Wainscot, Barred Yellow, Buff Ermine, 2 Straw Dot, Early Thorn, Dark Arches, Peppered Moth and Humming-bird Hawk Moth. 

Butterflies were plentiful with Holly Blue, Small Heath, Small Skipper, Meadow Brown, Comma and Ringlet recorded during the day.
