ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Friday 30th September 2022

A juvenile Common Rosefinch was seen with Bullfinches in the dunes on the NWT reserve in the morning, with a Yellow-browed Warbler present in and around the reserve car parks and in the pine valley still at 3pm but elusive. Other birds of interest were a Common Redstart also seen in the dunes, a Purple Sandpiper at Gore Point, Spotted Redshank, Greenshank, 3 Black-tailed Godwits, Kingfisher, Hobby, female Firecrest trapped and ringed, 2 House Martins, Richard's Pipit over west, 2 Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler in the forestry, 3 Song Thrushes, 20 Redwings, 10 Mistle Thrushes, Grey Wagtail, 5 Rock Pipits and 6 Bramblings.

In the moth traps a White Point, 38 Lunar Underwings, Pink-barred Sallow, 3 Angle Shades, 2 Feathered Ranunculus, 11 Beaded Chestnuts, 4 Large Wainscots, 7 Large Yellow Underwings, Square-spot Rustic and Black Rustic were caught. 

Four Wall Brown butterflies and a Red Admiral were still on the wing.
