ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Friday 9th September 2022

A very unsettled day with regular showers, highlights today were 3 Spoonbills, 2 Water Rails, 65 Lapwings, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Common Sandpipers, and from the NWT hides 2 juvenile Curlew Sandpipers, Spotted Redshank and 2 Little Ringed Plovers. A Barn Owl was in the dunes and a Kingfisher was seen, with further movement of 180+ Swallows and 50+ House Martins. In the pines a Pied Flycatcher and 3 Willow Warblers were seen but mobile.
 
In the moth traps a Willow Beauty, 5 Flounced Rustics, 4 Large Yellow Underwings, 9 Square-spot Rustics, Knot Grass, 4 Archer’s Darts, Large Wainscot, Pearly Underwing, Rush Veneer, Straw Dot, Pinion-streaked Snout, Yellow Belle, Blood Vein, Rosy Rustic, Vine’s Rustic and Setaceous Hebrew Character were caught.
 
Wall Brown, Speckled Wood, Peacock and Red Admiral were among the butterflies seen.
