ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 31st October 2022

Highlights on the sea today were 12+ Red-throated Divers, 2 Great Northern Divers and a Black-throated Diver, with 5 Gannets, 50 Razorbills, and a Little Auk seen off the NWT in the afternoon. A Sandwich Tern was a late record. Waders included 255 Golden Plover, 238 Lapwings, 7 Black-tailed Godwits and a Greenshank. Also of note were a Kingfisher, Peregrine, 4 Bearded Tits, 3 Fieldfares, 5 Stonechats, 8 Rock Pipits, a Brambling and 8 Siskins.

This was the final day of moth trapping with 2 Vine's Rustics, 3 Large Wainscots and a Shuttle-shaped Dart recorded. Humming-bird Hawk Moth, Red Admiral, Common Darter and Migrant Hawker were still seen in the warm sheltered parts of the reserve.
