ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 8th October 2022

 
A sunny but blustery day, on the sea a drake Eider, Red-throated Diver, Gannet and single Great Crested Grebe were recorded, and other birds of note included 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Kingfishers, 18 Skylarks moving west, 2 Cetti's Warblers, a Blackcap, 550 Starlings, 2 Stonechats and 2 Rock Pipits.
 
In the moth traps 7 Lunar Underwings, 2 Black Rustics, 8 Large Yellow Underwings, 2 Feathered Ranunculus, 5 Large Wainscots, a Beaded Chestnut, Broad Bordered Yellow Underwing and a White Point were caught.
 
Butterflies included Small Copper, Wall Brown, Red Admiral and Peacock.
 
Several Common Darters and Migrant Hawkers were busy in the sheltered spots.
