ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Thursday 20th October 2022

Visible migration intensified further with the approach of a major weather system and heavy rain mid-morning easing later in the day. A ring-tail Hen Harrier flew west low over the marshes and an Osprey was seen from the NWT. Two Jack Snipe were also seen there, while passerines included over 200 Goldcrests, a Firecrest, Pallas' Warbler and Yellow-browed Warbler in sycamores in the NWT car park, 2 Chiffchaffs, 4,700+ Starlings, a female Ring Ouzel was on the Golf Course, 750+ Blackbirds, 4 Fieldfares, 1400 Redwings, 4 Mistle Thrushes, 100 Robins, a Black Redstart was on the roof of the Broadwater Hide, 2 Grey Wagtails, 3 Rock Pipits, 8 Bramblings, 5 Redpolls and 30 Siskins were also of interest. 

In the moth traps a stunning Merveille du Jour, Beaded Chestnut, Red-lined Quaker, 5 Large Wainscots, 2 White Pointys and a Lunar Underwing were caught.
