ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Saturday 12th November 2022

A calmer day with sunshine developing, highlights inculded a Cattle Egret on the edge of Broadwater later morning, on the sea an Eider, 2 Common Scoter, 6 Red-throated Divers, Great Northern Diver and 10 Gannets, around the marshes 85 Curlew, a Greenshank, 220 Golden Plover, 400 Lapwings and 6 Snipe were recorded, with a male Merlin, Peregrine and Kingfisher also of interest. Also seen were 2 Bearded Tits, 8 Song Thrushes, 12 Redwings, 20 Blackbirds and a Mistle Thrush, 2 Stonechats, 7 Rock Pipits, a Pale-bellied Brent Goose and a Snow Bunting over the pines calling.

Insects were still enjoying the mild weather with a Small Tortoiseshell, 2 Peacocks, 4 Red Admirals, 2 Silver Ys and 8 Common Darters all recorded.
