Holme Bird Observatory Thursday 17th November 2022

Overnight there was an obvious arrival of thrushes, primarily Blackbirds, with at least 100 in the area of the Obs and NWT Dunes this morning, plus smaller numbers of Song Thrushes, Redwings and Fieldfares noted with them. Woodcock had clearly arrived too, with 11 birds disturbed from their daytime roosts during the day. A Firecrest was trapped and ringed during a brief break in the weather which allowed for some nets to be opened. The Cattle Egret also reappeared, spending the morning sat on the fencing and immediate area on the edge of the Broadwater.
Sea-watching produced totals of 63 Kittiwakes, 41 Little Gulls, 11 Gannets all heading east and a Velvet Scoter was noted heading west.
