REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 23rd January 2023

On the sea today a massive raft of Common Scoter were estimated at 8,500 distantly offshore, with 3 Velvet Scoter, a Goldeneye, Long-tailed Duck, 5 Red-breasted Mergansers, 2 Red-throated Divers, a Great Northern Diver and 8 Great Crested Grebes also recorded. In the frozen conditions 22 Snipe were recorded with a single Black-tailed Godwit, Barn Owl, 4 Bearded Tits on the edge of the Broadwater and off the Golf Course 3 Shorelarks, a Great Northern Diver and another Long-tailed Duck were seen. At Drove Orchards 5 Bramblings were noted.
