ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Friday 14th April 2023

A drake Garganey was seen near the sea wall at Thornham, and a Little Ringed Plover flew over south. Also of interest were a Barn Owl, juvenile Peregrine, 3+ Firecrests (1 trapped and ringed), 12 Chiffchaffs, 4 Willow Warblers, 3 Blackcaps, a Whitethroat, 2 Ring Ouzels were in the Forestry early morning, and a female Redstart, 5 Stonechats, 18 Wheatears, 3 Yellow Wagtails, 3 Redpolls and 6 Siskins were recorded.

In the moth traps 12 Hebrew Characters, a Small Quaker, 3 Clouded Drabs, a Powdered Quaker, Shoulder Stripe and Water Carpet were caught, with several more Emperor Moths hatching during the day.

Two Peacock butterflies and a Speckled Wood were also seen.
