ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Thursday 13th April 2023

A blustery day with sunny spells, highlights were an Osprey west along the ridge and then lost to view to the south. On the sea a drake Goldeneye was noted and a Sandwich Tern flew past west. A total of 3 Swallows passed through west, and on the grazing marshes 74 Black-tailed Godwits, 61 Curlew and 29 Ruff were counted. A Sedge Warbler was along the east bank and single Stonechat and Wheatear were recorded, with a White Wagtail near Thornham Harbour. 

A single Hebrew Character was in the moth traps, and a total of 5 Emperor Moths hatched from the Observatory colony.
