ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

A warm day that threatened rain, highlights were a family of 4 Stonechats along the east bank and a juvenile Cuckoo being chased by Swallows along the edge of the Broadwater. A flock of 19 Whimbrel and 2 Greenshank were also of note.

In the moth traps a total of 83 species were caught, with Pine and Poplar Hawk Moth, 2 Buff Arches, a Least Carpet, 2 Pretty Chalk Carpets, a Blue-bordered Carpet, 2 Kent Black Arches, a Lyme Grass, 9 Diamond-back, a Silky Wainscot, Antler Moth, Sand Dart and White Colon all noted among the catch. Butterflies were present in better numbers with Essex and Small Skipper, Gatekeeper, Ringlet, and Brown Argus all recorded during the afternoon.
