ACCESS TO HOLME BIRD OBSERVATORY UPDATE

REPAIRS TO THE COASTAL FOOTPATH ARE COMPLETE AND FULL ACCESS IS RESTORED TO THE OBSERVATORY FROM THORNHAM. THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS AND VISITORS FOR THEIR CO-OPERATION.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 19th July 2021

Birds of note today were 200 Common Scoter, 21 Sandwich Terns, Common and Little Tern offshore, a single flock of 41 Whimbrel heading south-west, a Cattle, 3 Great White and 8 Little Egrets and 2 Spoonbills around the Broadwater and NWT hides.
 
Moths were abundant again today with 2 Cinnabar, 3 Small Emerald, 3 Buff-tip, 23 Brown Tail, 24 Rosy Footman, Knot Grass, 13 Scarce Footman, 37 Common Footman, 8 Dwarf Cream Wave, Latticed Heath, 7 Kent Black Arches, 4 Least Carpet, 5 Privet Hawk, 2 Lyme Grass, 2 Oak Eggar, 5 Smoky Wainscot, 4 Haworth's Pug, 10 Ruby Tiger, 2 Buff Ermine, 4 Drinker, 4 Dingy Footman, 3 Single Dotted Wave, 2 Small Fan-footed Wave, 8 Yellow-tail, Lime-speck Pug, 2 Pine Hawk, 3 Clokaed Minor, Lesser Cream Wave, 2 Common Emerald, Small Rivulet, Small Dusty Wave, 3 Uncertain, 2 Dark Arches, Lychnis, Buff Arches, Shaded Broad-bar, 2 Fen Wainscot, Small Blood-vein, 3 Rustic, 3 Mottled Rustic, 2 Clay, Large Yellow Underwing, 2 Garden Tiger, Lesser Yellow Underwing, Grey Dagger agg, Breckland Plume and Dusky Plume among the 88 species recorded.
 
The first Southern Hawkers were around the reserve, with Black-tailed Skimmer and Common Darter still present.
